Private equity investment (VC’s, angels, other) filed with the SEC in January 2010 ranked by state

Privately-held companies that raise capital are required to file a Form D with the SEC to declare exempt offering of securities. We created the map below using data from SEC Watch’s Research Platform for January Form D filings. Total values of investment are grouped by state and exclusive of pooled investment funds.

January private investment in foreign companies

Over $400 million of investments in January was reported in Form D filings for companies that primarily do business outside of the United States. Australia and Canada received the most investment, although investments in Canada were spread among the greatest number of companies. Out of the 53 Canadian companies that registered offerings, the majority were resource companies including oil, gas, and mining. Investments in Australia went to a mere three companies in health, technology, retail.
